How it all started - A Culinary Journey

Updated: Feb 10

Growing up, the rhythm of my life was set to the cadence of celebrations and gatherings. The kitchen was the heart of our home, where my parents orchestrated soirées and my brother and I revelled in our childhood events.

My mum, a maestro of impromptu culinary inventions, could effortlessly transform random ingredients into savoury delights we affectionately called "potrawki" — stews, stir-fries, and fricassees that danced freely from the recipe books. Her culinary finesse extended beyond taste, emphasizing the artistry of plate presentation, a subtle touch that turned every meal into a visual masterpiece.

On the other side of the culinary spectrum, my dad earned his title as the master of bulk cooking. Fond memories linger of him preparing colossal batches of "bigos" and meticulously perfecting the annual ritual of pickling cucumbers, creating the most perfect pickled cucumbers imaginable.

The scene then shifted to the epicurean feasts at my grandparents' table. Despite our modest family size, my grandma ensured that her table could accommodate twelve, an ode to the significance of celebrating common dining. Her kitchen bore the stamp of fusion, merging Eastern flavours from her upbringing in Baku with the culinary tapestry of Poland in the 70s. A visionary, she embraced spices and tastes that were ahead of her time, an era when finding coriander or long rice was an adventure. My granddad was onboarded on this journey as a savvy market-goer, sourcing the freshest ingredients for my grandmother's creations.

The culinary saga continued with my paternal grandmother embodied the epitome of traditional Polish cooking, delighting us with dumplings like "pierogi z jagodami" and "knedle ze śliwkami."

In this culinary abundance, my childhood contributions were creative and colourful canapes "koreczki" for birthday parties and a quick pasta pesto for after-school hunger.

As I stepped into my late twenties, the feast of my upbringing left a lingering aftertaste, prompting a realization that not all aspects aligned with my quest for a healthy lifestyle. Instead of condemning the abundance, I chose to distil the richness into a creation that resonated with my values.

And so, the seed of an idea sprouted: to transform food into a vehicle for wholesome living. Join me as I share these thoughts and ideas, a journey of culinary exploration aligned with the values of health and vitality. Welcome to the intersection of flavour and well-being!
